Year 2000
As we have previously indicated, and as tests by several
clients and our own R&D department have confirmed, all Mitrol versions earlier than
Mitrol2000 (both under MVS and VM) are not year 2000 compliant and will not function correctly
with a CPU date set beyond the year 2000. The 50 year date window algorithm which allows to input
data as before, using the last two digits of a year, provides only "ease of use"
functionality to previous versions of Mitrol but does not provide year 2000 compliance.
True year 2000 compliance for Mitrol is only possible if Mitrol is used in connection with PL1 2.3 and
other libraries and systems software which are themselves year 2000 compliant and contain the
year 2000 calls needed by Mitrol.
In order to address the year 2000 problem, we have
incorporated year 2000 functionality into Mitrol2000, which, when used with the PLI 2.3
system and other compliant systems and software, provides true year 2000 compliance for all Mitrol
applications. Mitrol2000 contains various fixes and other functionality, in addition to the year
2000 functionality, which will be useful and necessary for all clients that intend to further
expand their Mitrol applications.
However, since we will not support earlier versions of Mitrol
after 1998, and for various other technical reasons, we do not intend to provide a Release of
Mitrol2000 compiled under PL1 2.3 that contains only the year 2000 fix without the other fixes
and new functionalities.
Therefore, existing clients and users that need to run their
Mitrol application into and beyond the year 2000 must move to Mitrol2000.
