What's new ?

We are pleased to announce that the new year 2000 compliant version of Mitrol (Mitrol2000) has been tested successfully and is about to be used in production.

Mitrol2000 has been thoroughly tested and is fully functional when used in connection with PL1 2.3. Nevertheless, experience in installing Mitrol2000 has demonstrated that certain adjustments need to be made to current installations. Therefore, in order to insure a time slot in our schedule to assist current clients to move to Mitrol2000, you must notify us as soon as possible if you are considering the move. By contacting us, we can provide you with more specific information about the new functionalities of Mitrol2000 and the procedures required to make the transition.

In conjunction with the release of Mitrol2000, we will ship a new user interface for Mitrol, which will offer PC access to Mitrol for end-users. Developed under Windows NT, this interface is based on a client server architecture. Two servers are involved in this architecture: one which will serve files (batches and graphical queries) and a second which will serve Mitrol sessions. Client software, such as VDE (Visual Dupd Editor - a graphical tool to easily build transactions) and the Mitrol Internet Gateway (to use Mitrol transactions in a Web page) will take advantage of these servers so that many users can work together safely.

As noted above, Mitrol2000 is compatible with PLI 2.3. With newer hardware and systems, PLI 2.3 is being replaced by PLI/LE (Language Environment). At present, Mitrol2000 does not run under PLI/LE, but we are working with IBM with a view to supporting PLI/LE by late 1998. For clients that move to Mitrol2000 now, it is our intention to ship the PLI/LE version as a maintenance Release at no additional cost.

Finally, Mitrol documentation such as the Request Reference Manual, and the System Administration Guide will be available later this year electronically in PDF format. This format can be viewed using the free Acrobat Reader viewer. Customers with a password will also be able to download new releases and patches of Mitrolsoftware directly from the Internet.

Only the MVS release of Mitrol2000 is presently available for production. We concentrated our efforts on the MVS release since MVS clients helped us testing the release on site with their applications. We are now concentrating on a VM release, however it has not yet been tested to the same extent as the MVS version. As soon as testing at the same level has successfully been completed, we will also offer the VM release for production.
